My book in collaboration with gestalten + written by journalist Mónica R Goya: the book presents an informative and inspiring overview on the contemporary practice of urban agriculture around the world. From a scholar that quit academia to fight to save Mexico City’s chinampas to a passionate activist tackling food insecurity by teaching urban farming skills in Nairobi, included are a mix of in-depth case studies, profiles on leaders in urban agriculture, special features, guest essays by experts in the field, a glossary, and step-by-step activities in case you are inspired to get involved yourself.
Starting with my work and interest in photographing urban agriculture globally, I am forever grateful to the editors at gestalten, Robert Klanten and Andrea Servert, who gave me the chance to co-edit and collaborate on this book with them from that work, along with with the contributions of so many talented people and written by journalist Mónica R Goya.

Thank you to all the farmers, growers, activists, food justice advocates, chefs, educators, beekeepers and all the others who made the time and wanted to be a part of this book. I hope it will be enjoyed.
With everything that has happened and is still happening in the world today, I’m so grateful to have had this project to work on during a very difficult year, it reminded me of the value of both life and farming.
